The Atstone story began when Neil Luxton left school and followed in his father’s footsteps as an apprentice stone carver. This led to monumental and architectural carving commissions at Ely Cathedral, the Central Criminal Court, and Harrods.
Neil established his own monumental masonry business in Burnham-on-Crouch in 1990, supplying stones and lettering on a direct basis, and a specialist service for design and carving to other local masons.
Since 1997, Neil has held the prestigious post of in-house stonemason at Highgate Cemetery, which contains some of the finest funerary architecture in the country. In that time, Neil has created and designed memorials for illustrious figures including artist Patrick Caulfield, Dame Beryl Bainbridge, and actress Jean Simmons.
Today, Neil has passed his extensive knowledge on to two apprentices and trained his current team who have become highly experienced to advise on the perfect memorial to reflect your wishes and memories.
